This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our uptime monitoring service available at reliableuptime.com and any related applications (collectively, the "Service").
Please read this policy carefully. If you disagree with its terms, please discontinue use of our Service.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide Directly
When you register for or use the Service, we may collect:
- Account information: Your name, email address, and password when you create an account.
- Monitor configuration: URLs, IP addresses, or hostnames of the services you want to monitor, along with monitoring settings such as check intervals and alert thresholds.
- Notification settings: Email addresses, webhook URLs, or other notification endpoint details you configure to receive alerts.
- Status page content: Information you publish on your public status pages, including service names, descriptions, and incident updates.
- Payment information: When you subscribe to a paid plan, billing details are collected and processed by our payment processor (Stripe). We do not store full credit card numbers on our servers.
- Communications: Messages you send to our support team.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
When you use our Service, we automatically collect certain technical information:
- Log data: IP addresses, browser type and version, pages visited, time and date of visits, time spent on pages, and other diagnostic data.
- Device information: Information about the device you use to access the Service, including hardware model, operating system, and browser.
- Usage data: How you interact with our dashboard, features used, actions taken, and preferences.
- Monitoring telemetry: Response times, HTTP status codes, SSL certificate expiry data, and availability metrics collected during routine checks of the endpoints you register.
- Cookies and similar technologies: We use session cookies to keep you authenticated and preference cookies to remember your settings. See Section 7 for details.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- Providing the Service: To operate, maintain, and improve our monitoring infrastructure and deliver check results, incident alerts, and status page functionality.
- Account management: To create and manage your account, process transactions, and send administrative communications such as invoices and security notices.
- Customer support: To respond to your inquiries and resolve issues.
- Analytics and improvement: To understand how the Service is used, diagnose technical problems, and develop new features.
- Security: To detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and other harmful activities.
- Legal compliance: To comply with applicable laws, regulations, and legal processes.
- Marketing (opt-in only): With your consent, to send you newsletters, product updates, and promotional communications. You may opt out at any time.
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We may share your information in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers: We engage trusted third-party companies to perform functions on our behalf, such as payment processing (Stripe), cloud infrastructure (Cloudflare), email delivery, analytics, and advertising (Google AdSense). These providers have access to information only as necessary to perform their functions and are contractually obligated to protect it.
- Public status pages: Information you choose to publish on your public status pages is visible to anyone with the link.
- Team members: On Team plan accounts, administrators may view and manage information associated with the workspace, including monitors and incident history, for all members of that workspace.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or governmental authority, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
- Business transfers: If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
5. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the Service. Specifically:
- Account data is retained for the duration of your account and deleted within 30 days of account closure upon request.
- Monitoring history and incident records are retained according to your plan limits (7 days for Free, 90 days for Pro, 1 year for Team) and then automatically purged.
- Billing records are retained for 7 years to comply with financial regulations.
- Server logs are retained for up to 90 days for security and debugging purposes.
6. Security
We implement industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These include:
- All data in transit is encrypted using TLS 1.2 or higher.
- Passwords are hashed using bcrypt with an appropriate work factor.
- Access to production systems is restricted to authorized personnel and requires multi-factor authentication.
- We conduct regular security reviews of our infrastructure and code.
However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
7. Cookies and Advertising
We use the following types of cookies:
- Strictly necessary cookies: Required for authentication and to keep your session active. These cannot be disabled without affecting core functionality.
- Preference cookies: Store your settings such as UI preferences and timezone.
- Analytics cookies: Help us understand how visitors use our Service so we can improve it. We use privacy-friendly analytics that do not track individuals across sites.
- Advertising cookies: Our marketing website (reliableuptime.com) uses Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google AdSense uses cookies, including the DoubleClick cookie, to serve ads based on your prior visits to our website and other sites on the internet. These cookies enable Google and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the internet.
You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings or aboutads.info. 9. International Data Transfers
Our infrastructure is primarily based in the United States and the European Union. If you access the Service from outside these regions, your information may be transferred to and processed in countries that may have different data protection laws than your country of residence.
Where required, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission to ensure adequate protection for data transferred outside the EEA.
10. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to individuals under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete such information.
11. Third-Party Links
Our Service may contain links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing any personal information.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email (to the address associated with your account) or by prominently posting a notice in the Service at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
